Full Spectrum CBD? Broad Spectrum? Or CBD Isolate?

Full Spectrum CBD? Broad Spectrum? Or CBD Isolate?

Plant based medicines have been used for centuries. In present day, there have been an increasing amount of CBD and THC classifications out there. These classifications may sound similar, but there are significant differences between each one that make them unique. Read on to learn more about the different types of CBD and THC classifications to see which can best benefit you and your needs.

What is Full-Spectrum CBD?

Full-spectrum CBD is made using the entirety of the hemp plant (source). That means everything from the leaves and stems to the roots and flowers are put together and the oils that are in them are extracted. Since every part of the plant is used, the final product doesn’t contain just CBD and will also have THC. Full-spectrum CBD will contain a number of different oils because it’s made with everything that comes out of the hemp plant (source).

Full spectrum offers a more natural and complete product that’s designed to give you as many benefits as possible. Since all parts of the plant are used, the main benefit comes from something called the “entourage effect” (source). This means that all of the different ingredients work together and what you end up with is actually even better than just the sum of its parts. Each of the different oils and components builds on one another to create something even better and stronger.

There’s still a lot of research that needs to be done in order to fully prove what CBD and full-spectrum especially can do, but the research that is out there is definitely promising.

Full-spectrum provides more overall cannabinoids than just CBD by itself and because of this, will provide more benefits (source). Depending on your needs, full-spectrum could be a better option for use. But if you are trying to avoid THC, try a broad-spectrum or a CBD isolate instead.

Full-spectrum also comes in a number of different forms, which means you can choose a product whos format will be the most beneficial to any concern you are dealing with. Topical products could potentially help with pain. Ingestible products like tinctures could ease anxiety.  You can target different areas of the body to make sure you’re getting exactly what your body needs and what’s going to make you feel your best.

Full-spectrum CBD is also typically more expensive than CBD isolate. For some people this is an extremely important consideration because it means you may not be able to get as much as you want. With a CBD isolate you’re going to be able to get more of the product for the money. However, you’re not getting as strong of a product or one that is as effective, so there is a trade-off with either direction you decide to go.

What is Broad-Spectrum CBD?

Broad spectrum CBD is actually a full-spectrum CBD that has the THC removed. This might seem like the perfect alternative for someone who wants as many benefits as they can get but no THC because of negative side effects, but you’re not going to get all of the benefits of a full-spectrum CBD. THC is required to get the full entourage effect. But it’s possible for there to still be trace amounts of THC in the end product.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is an isolated form of the CBD oil that occurs in the hemp plant. That means that you’re going to get only CBD in the oil that you buy (source). You won’t have any of the other oils or any of the THC (source). For those who need to avoid THC for any reason this can be a great option.

While you’re not getting all of the other oils and you’re not getting the entourage effect, there will still be the benefits of CBD as well. Products made with CBD isolate can be a great alternative for those seeking the benefits of CBD but cannot take THC.

In terms of production, CBD isolate is made using the leaves, roots, stems and flowers of the hemp plant just like with the full-spectrum product. The oils are then extracted in the same manner as well. But once the oils are extracted, there’s a slightly different process used to make sure the CBD is removed from the rest of the oils. In most cases this is a C02 extraction or a heat extraction to make sure the CBD is not damaged but none of the other oils are removed with it (source). This is also a way to isolate each of the other oils in the plant.

CBD isolate is still a good choice and can be beneficial without the  psychoactive effects of THC.

For those who are uncertain about CBD of any type because of THC there’s a whole lot to learn about CBD isolate (source). CBD isolate will give you the opportunity to get the benefits you’ve heard about from others without having to risk those negative effects. Then, you can make the decision later to use a full CBD product or a broad-spectrum CBD if that’s something you decide you want to do.

Finally, keep in mind that there are some conditions that have better reactions with specific types of hemp oils. There are several different oils in the hemp plant and CBD is only one of them, but different medical conditions react in different ways to different oils. You may have something that interacts very well with CBD isolate specifically, and in that case an isolate may be the right way to go. It may be able to give you the best possible results without needing all of the other components that are naturally in the hemp oil. In that case, you’re definitely going to have some benefits with isolate.

No matter what product you decide to go with or what way you decide to use CBD oils, there is the possibility for big improvements. Research still needs to be done to know more about everything that CBD products can do, but it’s definitely looking like a promising start. It’s definitely looking like CBD is making some big changes for people and that it could be a step in the right direction. It’s just about deciding which of the different varieties to start with and which form to use. Because there are plenty of different options out there for your or anyone else to choose from.
